What a custom ERP costs, phase by phase
Nobody should spend the full ERP budget before seeing anything work. We price by module and sequence them so the highest-pain area is delivered first.
Outcomes
- Cost per module, not one intimidating number
- First module live inside a quarter
- Comparison against licensed ERP over five years
- An indicative estimate in minutes

Orders, stock, purchasing and reporting — €150,000 to €350,000.
Full ERP programme
Multi-site, multi-currency, production — €350,000 upwards.
What we deliver
- Number of modules in scope
- Multi-site, multi-currency and tax rules
- Production and planning complexity
- Data migration from the legacy system
- Change management and training
Who this is for
- Manufacturers and distributors whose processes do not fit a standard ERP module.
- Companies costing targeted custom modules around an existing ERP.
How delivery runs
- 01
Scoping
One to two weeks on the real workflow, systems and data. Output is a written scope and an indicative band.
- 02
Phased plan
The first usable release is identified explicitly so spend produces something usable early.
- 03
Fixed first phase
Phase one is quoted as a fixed price where scope allows; later phases are re-estimated with real velocity data.
- 04
Change log
Anything added after sign-off is estimated and scheduled in writing, so the budget never moves quietly.
Realistic timeline
Weeks 1–4
Process mapping and module scope.
Months 2–5
Core modules in pilot use with real data.
Months 6–9
Migration, parallel run and cut-over.
Build or buy
Buy something existing when
- Standard finance, purchasing and stock processes — buy the ERP
Build custom when
- The operational layer around the ERP where your process differs, integrated rather than replacing it
Full custom ERP replacement is rarely the right answer. Custom modules around a standard ERP usually are.
What moves the price
Module scope
Production planning, stock, purchasing, sales and finance each carry their own data model and rules; scope discipline is the main cost control.
Finance and tax requirements
Ledger integration, VAT rules and statutory reporting per country add significant scope.
Migration and opening balances
Cut-over requires reconciled opening balances and a documented rollback window.
Training and change
ERP cost is as much organisational as technical; training and parallel running belong in the budget.
Where projects go wrong
Budget set before scope
A number agreed before discovery is a guess. We give a band after a short scoping phase and narrow it once the workflow and integrations are documented.
Data migration priced last
Legacy data is rarely as clean as expected. We survey the actual export during discovery rather than assuming it at the end.
FAQ
Questions buyers ask
Is custom ERP cheaper than SAP or Dynamics?+
Sometimes over five years, once licences, partner fees and customisation are included. We model both honestly.
Should we replace finance too?+
Usually not. Keeping a proven accounting package and integrating is lower risk.
